Dallas Metroplex Musicians' Association (DMMA) invites you to attend our annual Gloria Harper Lett Young Musicians' Showcase.
 
The performers are 9th through 12th grade students who attend schools in the Dallas metroplex. Earlier this year, they performed for judges and earned medals, ribbons, and other accolades in local, region, and state competitions. These young musicians excel in voice, instrumental, and in piano performance. This is our opportunity to applaud and encourage their accomplishments and musical pursuits.
 
Please assist us in 'getting the word out' to all church and organization members, family, friends, and neighbors. The Gloria Harper Lett Young Musicians' Showcase is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

"Jowanda E. Jordan Festival of Negro Spirituals," formerly "Kwei-Kwei Festival of Negro Spirituals", originally named and chaired by the late Mrs. Jowanda E. Jordan. In 2015, The Dallas Metroplex Musicians' Association unanimously elected to rename the event in honor of Mrs. Jordan. Mrs. Jordan was a charter member of the Dallas Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. (NANM) organized in 1985, now known as the Dallas Metroplex Musicians' Association.

She served as the Director of the Southern Region of NANM, Inc., for more than eleven years. She championed the Negro Spiritual throughout our community. We are ever grateful to Mrs. Jordan and many others for developing a culture of excellence and a platform for celebrating this uniquely American genre of music, The Negro Spiritual. Currently, the spiritual is sung around the world. It is our hope that the festival will continue to present the Negro Spiritual as a genre worthy of study, performance, and celebration, thus, presenting it as a gift to generations to come. Participating performers throughout the region are committed to preserving and celebrating the Negro Spiritual.

St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church co-hosts this event with the Dallas Metroplex Musicians' Association as a part of its Music Series, but this year's program will be located at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75205.

The Dallas Metroplex Musicians' Association is proud to kick off its 2019-2020 season with our annual John Archie Sanders Festival of Hymns on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at 4:00 PM at First Christian Methodist Evangelistic Church (First CME Church). The concert will feature the Dallas Metroplex Musicians' Association (DMMA) Junior/Youth Division Choir, under the direction of Carolyn Donnell and Carmalie Sims; One Accord Men’s Chorus under the direction of Founder and Artistic Director John Mark Tatum; and the Voices of Love Children’s Choir from Concord Baptist Church under the direction of Yvonne J. Harris. Come out and share in the fellowship of popular hymns with local choristers and congregants. The evening promises to be a highlight of the year.

The Junior/Youth Division of the Dallas Metroplex Musicians’ Association was organized in 2016 in Dallas, Texas. By doing this, DMMA is now aligned with the structure and charter of the National Association of Negro Musicians. We are fortunate to be able to develop, showcase and sponsor these talented youth. These students are provided the opportunity to learn directly from seasoned professionals while providing them the opportunity to perform in venues and travel to locations not always available to them. Students are required to maintain grades of 80 or above, exhibit good behavior, and citizenship. Membership in the program includes participation in activities such as performing for community events, churches, and conventions as well as competing in music festivals. The DMMA Junior/Youth Division participated and performed at the 2017 and 2018 National Association of Negro Musicians' National Conventions and will participate and perform at the 100th National Association of Negro Musicians' National Convention in Chicago, Illinois from July 14-19, 2019.

Every once in a while exceptional talent impacts the gospel music industry and leaves an indelible impression. The anointed and talented Patrick Lundy and The Ministers of Music are one of those rapidly escalating gospel groups who have done just that!  When these anointed world-class musical virtuosos sing, they become vessels through which the intent of worship and praise is fully recognized.

Legendary opera star and five-time Grammy Award-winner Kathleen Battle will perform a program of traditional spirituals titled Underground Railroad — A Spiritual Journeyat the Winspear Opera House accompanied by the South Dallas Concert Choir. The evening of songs and readings will feature the words of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass narrated by Rev. Sheron Patterson , Senior Pastor of Hamilton Park United Methodist Church.
